Electricity is ubiquitous and is available to most dwellings around the world. However, our equipment is often deployed in environments where there is no access to the electricity grid. This is not an issue for our equipment as we can supply our own power generated from either solar panels or wind generators.
A fully loaded installation (Weather Station, Level Detection, Embankment Slip Detection and Wireless Temperature) requires approximately 2 watts to operate. We cater for 2 separate power inputs so we can provide either solar power or wind power, or both! It is more cost-effective to provide power via solar but it may be your preference for wind (or both) depending on the installation site.
Batteries
We use AGM-technology deep-cycle rechargeable batteries to store the generated power, whether it be from solar or wind power. These are sealed batteries so are spill-proof and no danger to the environment. They batteries will, in general, last from 3 to 5 years and are 100% recyclable at end of life.
Maintenance
There is very little maintenance required on the power generation system. The batteries are maintenance-free and the expected lifetime is 3 to 5 years depending on the temperature. The wind generators require an annual inspection and clean, having a lifetime of around 5 years depending on the environment in which it is installed. Solar Panels only require a clean, the frequency of which is dependent on the installation environment. The effective life of ht esolar panels is > 15 years.
